SELC DISTRICT LWML MISSION GRANTS 2010 – 2012
Zion Lutheran Church – Clark, NJ -
In 2008 Zion called Pastor Naveen Nischal as a Mission Developer to the
Asian-Indian Community in their area for a three year call. The primary
target audience is in the Iselin section of Woodbridge Township known as
“Little India” with well over 20,000 Indians. The cost of his ministry
is between $75,000 - $80,000 yearly with Zion paying one third from
their general fund and another third from their endowment fund. The
remaining third needs to come from outside the congregation. Pastor
Nischal regularly makes contacts in the local Indian community and has
three ESL groups meeting at this time. GRANT TOTAL $5,000.00
St. Matthew Lutheran Church –
Norton, OH St. Matthew is requesting a grant to pay 75% of the total
cost for refurbishing communion items and purchasing new altar items
including communion linens and paraments. They will be celebrating 100
years of God’s grace this year and have attracted new members by
utilizing the use of traditional “Lutheran Hymnal”. Their Ladies
Aid/LWML will be raising the other 25% of what they need. GRANT TOTAL $3,000.00
*Family of Christ Elementary
and Middle School – Tampa, FL - Family of Christ’s goal is to continue to
make this church and school a sanctuary of worship and beauty as they
extend the ministry of the Word to their congregants and students. The
grant will be used to enhance the beauty and reverent feel of the
sanctuary. This space is used for worship, community outreach events and
meetings including AA, AL-Anon, OCD Disorder, Weight Watchers, Drama for
Youth and Music, and for their school children (K-8) who will use the
space for chapel. The funds will paint walls, upgrade carpet, enhance
sound system, offer needed storage space and other minor enhancements. GRANT TOTAL $1,925.00
*Peace Lutheran Church –
Galloway, NJ - Their grant will be used for two permanent signs that
will enhance and create a stronger visibility in the community. Their
present sign does not reflect their identity as a church and a Christian
school nor does it match the standards for organization/business signs
within the township. One sign will include the church name and school,
their logo and a message board. The second one will be at the entrance
and have a stronger focus on their school ministry.
